Children’s Education Center
Cleveland, Ohio

Design Overview
This educational building functions as a gateway from the built world to the natural environment. Organic forms are derived from the growth patterns found in sea creatures such as coral.
Site Context
Its agricultural location in the Irishtown Bend neighborhood has potential growth within Cleveland's urban context. Overlapping spaces make businesses more attractive to visit; the aggregate building uses a conglomeration of spaces to further this notion.
Systems Integration
The organic void spaces throughout the structure create not only ideal views of the river but creates a relaxing atmosphere for areas such as stationary study pods. The aggregate building integrates native foliage into the structure with the use of interior and exterior green walls. Southern light seeps into public spaces through the gaps of the vegetation, creating a naturalistic sunshade that emits fragmented sunlight, making a relaxing and calm environment throughout the structure.
