Community Center
Waterloo, Ohio
Design Overview
The Waterloo arts district is a vessel of expression for the community’s local artists. Art flows throughout the streets in various forms such as murals and sculpture gardens. The new community center will integrate culture and healthy lifestyle practices into this heavily trafficked corner of town.
Building Program
The community center will reach out to pedestrians with its unique form that celebrates the nearby cafes and music shops. Pedestrians are able to peek inside many of the fitness and culture zones from the street and will have full access to a large community space on the terraced roof. The outdoor terrace is cradled by the structure which blocks noise pollution. Small linear viewing ports line the steps of the rooftop terrace which encourages engagement between the exterior and interior. This portion of the community center is easily accessible and features an outdoor pool and a viewing lounge for the town’s hot spots. The community center engages pedestrians from about every angle on the interior and exterior. As people navigate through the provocative form, they will discover a large variety of spaces.
